FAQ

  • What’s wrong with my back? Why am I in pain?

Typically you have pain because of “pinched nerves”. When nerves are pinched, toxins and poisons are released, nerve impulses are blocked, and a host of other things happen.

  • Why is this happening to me?

Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what caused you to have back pain, as it could have been 1000 things leading up to this point. Physical stress, emotional stress, and even chemical stress can cause your vertebrae to misalign. What we can tell you is if we can help or not.

  • Can I tell if I have a pinched nerve?

Not always. You can’t always tell when you have a cavity developing or if you have plaque building up inside your arteries either, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem developing that will have negative health implications. A proper examination and X-rays will let us know if there is a problem.

  • How are your specific adjustments going to target what is wrong with me?

Based on your symptoms and are exam findings we are able to determine which areas of the spine are causing your problems and need to be adjusted. This is what we are trained to do.

  • How long does it take to feel better?

Fast responders are typically 1–8 visits, intermediate 8–20, and slow 20–more. It doesn’t matter if you are fast or slow, just that you respond. We welcome a fast response.

  • Is Chiropractic dangerous?

Chiropractic is “remarkably safe” according to research. Chiropractors actually pay less for malpractice insurance than any other medical provider.

  • Does it hurt to get adjusted?

No,it usually feels good to get adjusted. Sometimes in the beginning of care there can be some discomfort, especially if you are new to Chiropractic, but this subsides quickly.

  • Can I get adjusted during pregnancy?

Absolutely! See our Prenatal Chiropractic Page for more information on this.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We currently accept all major insurance plans that will allow us to be in network with them. This includes Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care, Medicaid, Medicare, Title 19, Aflac, Preferred One, UMR, and many other small companies. We do not accept Coventry.

  • What do I do if I can’t afford it?

Your health is our primary concern. We have never turned anyone away due to finances. If you are having trouble paying for your care, we can discuss your situation and figure out a way that works for you.

  • How long will my appointment take?

A normal appointment takes less than 10 minutes. See our What to ExpectPage for more on this.

  • What do I do if it starts hurting and I can’t get into the office?

The first thing we recommend is trying to find a comfortable position, and applying cold packs to the area 20 minutes every hour. Be careful trying to stretch as you may aggravate already irritated tissues. If you have Bio freeze or other topical pain relieving sprays, now is a good time to use them as well.

  • Is Chiropractic addictive?

No. If it were, there would be more healthy people around it would take weeks to get an appointment booked! It is possible to get used to feeling more balanced, less stressed, and more energetic as a result of regular chiropractic care. Chiropractic is not addictive, however, good health is.

  • Do I have to go forever?

Some do.If you had diabetes, would you ever stop taking insulin? Ultimately your health care choices are made by you. If you want to make Chiropractic part of your families wellness lifestyle, we are here for you. If you want to come in only when you are in pain, we are here for you.

  • Can I get adjusted after spinal surgery?

Yes. Even though back surgery is supposed to eliminate pain, up to half of those who had spinal surgery discover a return of their original symptoms months or years later. They then face the prospect of additional surgery. This happens so much there is a new diagnosis labeled as “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome.” Chiropractic may help prevent repeated back surgeries or even surgery in the first place.

  • How often do I need to come in?

We don’t recommend the same treatment for everyone. Length of care is determined by multiple factors including your age, prior medical history, family history, X-ray findings, and current overall health.

  • How am I progressing or am I getting better?

The Dr. will let you know how you are doing. Some things that indicate recovery include decreased muscle spasm and tightness, increased intervertebral motion (spinal movement), decreased pain, and increased range of motion.

  • Are there any side effects?

Yes. You may experience more energy, better sleep, and increased health as a result of your care. Chiropractic removes interference to the system of the body that controls all other system.

When I came to Dr. Jenkins I was in a lot of pain. I was a new patient and he was very welcoming along with his staff. After a few short weeks with Dr. Jenkins I am feeling so much better. He was very knowledgeable about my condition and was able to give me information to help myself at home to help get me back to normal. Thank you so much Dr. Jenkins for taking such good care of me!!!

I have been seeing Dr. Jenkins for 3+ years now. He helped me get through my first pregnancy and I’m currently under his care for my second. He lets me come in with little to no notice which is very convenient. Such a warm and inviting atmosphere when you walk in the door. Don’t go anywhere else especially for prenatal and postnatal care!
