If I could only take one thing…
Almost everyone these days takes some vitamin or nutritional supplement for certain reasons pertaining to their individual health. There is certainly not a shortage of health supplements for you to spend your money on. Numerous companies and individuals will try to persuade you as to why theirs is the most important. A lot of them are healthy and do have benefits, but you can’t buy everything. So what if you could only buy one? Well I am going to give you my answer to that question.
VITAMIN D
Think about this, our bodies decided that this vitamin was so important it was going to produce it on its own! All your body needs is some sunlight and it is a vitamin D factory. But therein lies the problem. What if you live in Iowa and work inside? Well you are probably deficient in D. The majority of people living in the midwest are deficient. I would even bet that at least half of you reading this are deficient. So why does this matter?
Risks of Low Vitamin D
Some major risks include Osteoporosis, and cancer. Vitamin D deficiency has now been linked to breast cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer.
Vitamin D also plays a role in promoting cell growth, in building our immune function, and in reducing inflammation. New research is studying the role these activities may play in the development of several chronic diseases, including heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes. In fact, the further away from the equator you are(therefore lower vit D levels), the more likely you are to have MS.
My number one reason for taking it is for it’s ability to strengthen the immune system. I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to not feeling well, so this is a biggie for me.
I could go on and on with why to take vitamin D. It is involved in so many important processes of the body, and not having enough can be very troublesome. That is why my numero uno supplement is vitamin D. The good news is that it is very inexpensive if you have to buy it. It is free if you have some decent sunlight.
